It was dark. Darker than it had been in many, many years. The sky was inky, and rain fell in a heavy sheet that covered the landscape. A man quickly and quietly walked under the rain, the hood of his jacket pulled over his head and a bundle carried in his arms. He whistled softly to himself, as though he were simply taking a stroll down the streets.

2 Four Years Later

I hope you choke, Smith, I thought to myself. I stood to finish walking up the stairs when the most peculiar thing happened. As Jeffery took a bite of his toast, he began to splutter and cough. He held his throat as he coughed louder, unable to hold the food down. I smiled to myself, my wish granted, and quickly ran back up to my room before the Madame came down and found me lurking. If she found me, she would surely tan my backside to the point where I wouldn’t be able to sit for a week.

The walk to the school was long and dreary. The weather was not yet cold but not yet warm, and settled in an uncomfortable medium where I was unsure of whether I wanted to shiver or not.
