Ch. # Chapter Title Word Count Reviews
1 Chasing Trains

'I rolled my eyes. “Fine! Alright! A train is nothing....”I took another rough swallow; “--To be afraid of...”

He smiled and nodded. “That a girl. Besides,” he said, standing straight and looking at me.
“You’re sixteen and a train ride is a really stupid thing to be afraid of...”'-from text

2 A Problem With Greece

'“Yes, your problem." she replied, looking at me. “You’ve been the one sporting the attitude the last few days.”
“Have not.” I argued.
Vaeda tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. “Please...”she said dismissively. Anytime I’ve said anything about Leo, or my Grandparents, or my Dad, or the beach, or anything even closely
related to Greece you give me the evil eyes.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Like that! Right there!” she said, sitting up on her knees and looking at me. “Greece. Greece. Greece!”'- from text

3 Letters of the Summer

'I snorted, remembering Yia Yia’s reaction every time a letter from Cedric came in. Usually I didn’t even get them until two days later when I’d ask where’d all the mail went. Yia Yia would never withhold mail, but if I didn’t ask for it I wouldn’t get it.
“No need for letter from English boy...”she would mutter in Greek as she would hand me the thick envelopes that would hold Cedric’s letter. “Plenty of good handsome Greek boys right here on island. Good looking, strong, Greek boys....” and by then she would have me kicked out the door, so I would go read my letter on the beach.'

4 Another Year

'“He has a wooden leg!” Vaeda whispered excitedly as he approached, sitting on her knees on the bench so she could better see. One of his eyes, a larger one, flicked right to her, causeing her own blue eyes to widen and then she sunk sheepishly back down onto her rear as he climbed the stairs to the teachers table.'-from text

5 Unknown Factors Involved

'“Eternal glory?” he prompted. “You can’t say that wouldn’t be smashing!”
“It’d be great...” I shrugged. “If you’d rather be known for brawn over brains....”
“Prize money?” He quickly added.
I paused quietly, thinking of it. A thousand galleons. I couldn’t argue that it would be great, grant it, my dad would have to get a real job, but it would keep us afloat for a while.
“It’d be nice. “I finally caved.'-from text

6 Anything You Can Do

'“I can’t even back out of it now.” I said anxiously, looking around the room. “Did you know that everyone is saying I won’t enter because I don’t want to risk my looks?”
“Not everyone is saying that...”she said in an exasperated voice, turning the page of her book.
“Besides," she sighed, looking me over. “There isn’t really that much to risk...”
“Ha. Ha. Ha.” I said deadly, snatching the toast from her hand and finishing it off.'-from text
