2 Chapter Two: Begrudging Alliances

Malfoy stretched and yawned, for the first time noticing Hermione. “Oh, hullo Mudblood,” he drawled, “What are you doing here?”

Hermione frowned. “Believe it or not, we have come to help you, but only if you help us.”

3 Chapter Three: Talking A Ferret Round Isn't Easy

Malfoy was knocked backwards, legs sprawling, crying out as he fell face down on the wooden flooring. Embarassed, and angry, he got up, making his famous rude hand gesture. Hermione rolled her eyes, and offered a hand. “I may be helping you,” the Slytherin said revoltingly, “but I am not about to touch a Mudblood.”

4 Chapter Four: The Vision

Suddenly, everywhere was like ice. Harry felt his shoulders freeze, and right there in front of him, with glowing snake eyes was the terrorising face of Lord Voldemort.

5 Chapter Five: Return To The Cave

Hermione gave him a look. “Harry, no. You can't go on your own. It's too dangerous. Please, think about this.”

He nodded in answer. “I have, and I've made my mind up. None of you are coming. If I die, then my last thought will be, thank Merlin none of you were with me.”

6 Chapter Six: The Test

Harry watched in conflicted hopelessness, as Ginny barred both arms over her head. The complications . . . . why were there always so many? No matter what the situation was like, he knew that he had to let someone down, and staring up at the one girl who he'd always loved, the decision was made.

7 Chapter Seven: Sorry Is The Hardest Word

Malfoy froze, shock plastered upon his pale, pointed face. “No. No! Father doesn't . . . . he can't . . . . he loves me, they both do!!” Hurt vanished, replaced with pain, before settling on anger. “You're lying. You're just making this up because you're jealous, because I actually have a Dad who loves me and who's alive!”

8 Chapter Eight: Don't Always Listen To Daddy

“This is it. Here's the cave where I saw him.”

Malfoy gave a brisk nod. “Um, Potter . . . . perhaps you should go first? You know, seeing as you're the Chosen One and everything . . . .”

Harry wasn't fooled. He knew it was due to fright that his accompanist did not want to join him, but there really was the slimmest chance that Voldemort would show

9 Chapter Nine : Death

Harry's face looked even more exhausted then it had ever been before. Although he had slept a lot, it just was not enough to keep him stable for the next working day. Plus, he had never felt more frustated and hopeless. If only he could find a way to stop the dreams.

10 Chapter Ten: The Letter

Harry sighed, looked down at the tiny letter one last time and folded it up, placing it inside his pocket. There it would remain, until such a time when the news was needed. He glanced back over his shoulder, and nodded defiantly. There was no way around this. The situation was clear.

11 Chapter Eleven: Torture Of The Mind

Harry stood pensievely in front of the sink, thinking hard. How was this going to work? Suddenly, a scream pierced the air with insufferable volume. He fell to the floor, hands over his head, trying to block out the noise.

12 Chapter Twelve: A Terrible Mistake

There, right in front of him was Lord Voldemort. “Hello Harry, lovely to see you again. It seems like so long since I nearly killed Ginny Weasley. Lucius, come and say a greeting to our friend.”

13 Chapter Thirteen: Why?

Despite not being afraid, he grabbed his wand inside the pocket of his jeans, just in case of an attack. Nothing yet, but he was not going to underestimate him. Not in this state.

14 Chapter Fourteen: Kick Kick

Malfoy stuck out his tongue, pulling a face. Granger, he corrected, was that he had not once ever seen her look attractive. She was still an ugly beaver, but he hated the way her bushy hair fell over her back, kissing it luxoruiously.

15 Chapter Fifteen: Secrets Surfaced

Harry accepted his words, but would not believe them. Even though the young Slytherin was not a murderer, it had all been through the love for his family, but now . . . . his father was gone, extinguished from the world, like the naked, vulnerable flame of a dying wick. So what if the dreams had stopped? He was a killer, and nothing would wipe that from his stained conscience.

16 Chapter Sixteen: Confusion

Malfoy tried to scratch his head, but found that his fingers were clutched by hers. “Um, Mudb- Granger,” he said, surprised by his correction, “Could you please remove your hand? I'm not going to ask why it is there, but could you please stop- wh- whatever you're doing.”

17 Chapter Seventeen: Hidden Lies

“I don't hate you,” came Hermione's quiet voice, touched with tenderness. “That's what made me upset. I thought you hated me, and I don't mean in a mocking, selfish style. I mean, in the way that you hate Harry. What you said,” she whispered, “I never knew, words could hurt so much.

18 Chapter Eighteen : The Matter Of Conscience

The last time Harry had come here, he'd knelt by his parent's graves and asked them for their advice. Seeing the headstones gleaming, he could amost hear their words floating through the sunny mists, enveloping him with comfort, but now in the presence of an ex Death Eater, what would they say?

19 Chapter Nineteen: Second War

Draco! No, stop!!” Hermione's voice echoed over the clearing.

Harry squinted. Somehow, she had managed to release herself from the pit.

“You're not like this!! Think about what you're doing! Remember your conscience! Lower the wand, please! I know you're angry, but-”

“What else do you suggest, Mud- Granger,” he corrected, ignoring the look on Harry's face, “He's going to kill us, anyway!”

20 Chapter Twenty: Corpse

“What is it, Granger?”

Hermione swallowed. “It's, I have something to tell you, and-” she started crying, head in her hands, “Oh, Draco. I can't, do, I- I said I would, but, you don't deserve it. Nobody does.”

21 Chapter Twenty One: Mudbloods Aren't That Bad

“I myself,” continued Malfoy, head down, “have an apology to make. E-Even though you're a filthy Mudblood, I feel that you- understand me. I've learnt that now, and more importantly- you saved my life. Th- I mean, I appreciate it.”

22 Chapter Twenty Two: Fire, Blood, Poison, Water

“Wait!” she shouted, straining her eyes into the gloom. “What's-? That- snake- it's moving-”

“No it isn't,” Harry answered slowly, “I was tricked too. We're wasting time. Come on!”
