A New Connection A muffled whimper reached her ears. It broke the fluidity of her motion, throwing her off balance. Staggering to regain her footing, she glanced around the room to find a huddled figure in a black Hogwarts cloak. White blond hair shone on top of the figure’s head; its face buried in its knees. Yet another whimper sounded, tearing through her flesh. |

Loyalty Hermione grasped the mug tightly and felt her fingers tingle with its warmth. Breathing in the heavy scent of the butterbeer, Hermione took a small sip, feeling the soothing warmth run down her throat and chase away the remaining cold in her bones. Looking up from her mug, she saw the very red head she had been waiting for. |

Underneath It All Reaching cold, clammy hands out, she grabbed a clump of the covers lying delicately over her fragile frame. With one swift motion, she pushed the white sheets to the end of the bed, exposing her skin to the cold air of the Hospital Wing. A shiver ran down her spine as she pushed herself off of the comforting warmth of the bed, and started her feet in the direction of the boy in the bed across the room; her gait slow, yet steady. |

Secret Protector Hermione’s heart jumped into her throat, and her hand subconsciously shot up to cover her mouth and hide her heavy panting. She moved from behind the door, and pressed herself flat against the stone wall directly next to the door. Without even blinking, the Gryffindor waited for the door to open. She waited to meet her doom. She waited for something, anything to happen. |

Late Night Chat The girl breathed a sigh and stared upwards. The enchanted ceiling of the Great Hall displayed plenty of beautiful white flakes falling from the heavens. It was an ideal February morning, and what Hermione wanted more than anything was to have Harry back and to settle her differences with Ron so that the three of them could take a walk to Hogsmeade, or have a snowball fight. Like old times. But the old times were dead. |

Lost and Found She stood up to leave, but the door was blocked by two people. One of them was a very tall, bald man. He was staring down at Hermione with the brightest green eyes she had ever seen. They seemed to be taking an x-ray of her body as she stood there with her bag. She felt so very inferior to this man, yet she couldn’t explain why. Standing next to the man was an average sized woman with long, chestnut hair and rather full lips. Her hands were nervously gripping her robes. Hermione recognized these people, but didn’t know why. |

Reunited Hermione felt a tear roll down her cheek as she knelt down beside her friend. His face was badly scarred and bleeding. Dried blood had crusted into his brown hair as well as his robes. His leg was twisted at a very strange angle, and his entire body was shaking profusely. A black, shiny bruise surrounded his left eye, and his bottom lip was swollen. The defeated boy clung to his ribs gingerly, continuing to cough, blood dripping from his mouth and onto his torn, bloody robes. |

Better Than Quidditch For six plus years, she had hated the boy, or at least pretended to. He was Harry’s enemy, and treated her horribly, so it was only natural she hate him. But underneath it all, even though she hadn’t even admitted it to herself, she had had feelings for him. It had all become so clear in these past few months. And now that it was confirmed he felt the same, those butterflies in her stomach simply would not leave her alone. It was torture. |

Almost Perfect Hermione groaned in disappointment. She didn’t want this wonderful night to end. But it had to. If there was never an end, there could be no new beginnings – and that was exactly what she wanted. A new beginning with Draco. Her heart fluttered at the thought. |

Nighttime Stroll Hermione gave a small sob, and looked past Draco, to a place hundreds of yards past his shoulder. Anything to not look at his face… that face that was infused with determination far stronger than hers. It was that determination that stopped her from refusing the boy. Defeat rang in her ears, its shrill cry blocking out all other sound. |

Trapped Hermione looked up and a familiar face immediately came into view. Despite the fierce glare she was receiving, it was a comfort to see something that reminded her of the life that had been stolen from her that night she had been brought here. Wherever ‘here’ was. |

A Light in the Darkness The two Death Eaters that had attacked her earlier entered the room. Their expressions were wild, eyes locked on Hermione’s frail body. They moved to the far side of the room, and their eyes shot towards the doorway. Both men fell into a deep bow just as a dark cloud came forth. |

The Beginning of the End The four Death Eaters had entered the room now, and were slowly beginning to form a circle around Harry. Draco had obsequiously joined their ranks, blending in with ease. They were all laughing maniacally, jeering at Harry as he spun around frantically, trying to defend himself from all angles. They were poking and prodding him with their wands now, and Harry looked absolutely terrified. |

Waiting Hermione nodded and followed Mrs. Weasley out into the moon-lit night, relieved to leave the filthy, dust-covered pub. There was a warm wind blowing through Hogsmeade. It ruffled her hair and brought color to her cheeks. Hermione breathed in the fresh air, greedily filling her lungs again and again until she was satisfied. It was wonderful to be out in the open after weeks and weeks of confinement. |

Truth is a Poison The sound of a door closing announced Ginny’s departure. Hermione rolled over in her bed and gazed at the wall next to her four-poster. It was dark and gray, with a jagged appearance. These past few days, it had been the only thing in her life that made any sense. It was the only thing that understood her, and listened to her. |

The Real Draco Malfoy When Mr. Weasley had finished, a roar of applause broke out throughout the crowd. Mr. Weasley gave a short bow, his face flushed at the praise he had received. Several people stood up and walked over to him. He stepped down from the podium, and they shook his hand, one by one. Mrs. Weasley wrapped her arms around him and kissed him, her eyes red and puffy. |
