James Potter stared depressed into the mirror in his dormitory in Gryffindor Tower. He was a seventh year, Head Boy, one of the most popular boys in school, top student and yet… had been chasing the same girl for about four years.

Sunday dawned bright and cold, it really was coming to the end of summer. James woke up later than usual, and had a quick shower before making his way down to the Common Room to find Sirius, Remus and Peter. Sirius was playing Remus at wizard chess, sitting next to a crackling fire, and Peter was examining an old piece of parchment, lying on a sofa next to them. James bounded down and dived over the arm of the sofa and sliding along, knocking Peter off in the process.
