He was now looming over the edge of the ice, his toes peeking just above the icy water. Poised like a diver, the boy seemed ready to spring off the edge, before he straightened up suddenly. He wore a strange expression on his face, one even he could not place. With shaking hands the boy tugged at his scarf and flung it face down on the stiff ice .Then, like he could hold it in no longer, he flung himself in to the waters dark, swirling depths.
