My heart hits the ground at the very instant that casket does. Falls just like a sinking ship, cold, lonely, and heartbreaking to watch. My eyes sting with hot tears that stand poised to fall from my swollen eyes. The clean, white casket that I know will soon be lost from sight forever is covered with unforgiving earth, sealing the fate that I have tried to avoid since it happened. I can’t feel anything except the weight of sorrow, heavy on my weak, unwilling shoulders. I have long ago lost the feeling of James’ warm hand in mine.
