"So, Lils," Mary asked, swinging her legs back and forth, "What've you been up to?"

"Nothing much. I went down to Diagon Alley last weekend, met with some Muggles."

"Cute Muggles?" She wiggled her eyebrows.

"Because a teenage mum is in such high demand."

Lily giggled a little at first before the truth of her words started to sink in.

"He's my son, Mum! I can't-"

"Do you even know that he's you're son? Are you sure?"

"Yes, Mum, I'm sure! Just look at him!" James gestured with his arms over to his son, who looked to be the spitting image of his father.

"He resembles you, James, but there are ways...charms, perhaps."

"And I regretted it all last year, enough to ask you out in front of the entire school! You turned me down, Lily, when you were seven months along. But I would've understood, even then!"

"I was upset, James, even Severus turned against me when," Here, she lowered her voice, "When he found out we slept together."

"You should have told Snivellus to bugger off then! I'll sleep with whoever the fuck I want!"

"James!"

"Can I go and get dressed then?"

"'Course, but it's.." He looked towards the clock, "Only around seven. You're not going out this early, are you?"

"No, but I haven't even begun to get ready!" She told him, thinking of all the wonderful things that had to be done: curling her hair, picking out an outfit, choosing the perfect shade of lipstick. Not that the Muggle season didn't require dressing up but at home, Mother oversaw her dress and the little details she so loved.

"Professor Slughorn!"

"Lily, my dear, how are you?" He asked, surveying her figure with distaste, "Here, have some pineapple. Ambrosius sent me some just last week. He owns Honeydukes now, you know."

"Does he? Well, we'll have to go and tell him hello next time we're in, then won't we, Ames?"

"We? Hoho, does that mean yourself and Mr. Potter are back together?" He winked back at James, making her blush though he'd misheard what she'd said. On purpose, perhaps.

"James?" Lily called softly, stepping out into the hall, "You almost ready?"

"Yeah, here." He said opening the door, pulling a button-down shirt over his head. She had come over to pick out his tie, making sure that the two of them would match like they always had.

"You got anything grey, love?"

"Um, I don't think so but there might be a coat that would match like over there somewhere."

"Like? You're such a valley girl."

"I'm sorry, love; I don't mean to be pushy but I thought he'd make such a good godparent..."

"He doesn't even like you, Lily. Why would he like your son?"

"You're right, of course, but I thought because he loved you, James... He would love him too."

"He doesn't like either of us now, sweetheart," He sighed, "But I'll ask him if you like."

"We don't shag; we make love."

"Make love? Well, it does sound better. But-Lily, I want you whatever way."

"Lovely...And so romantic," She said, breathing him in. He smelled like wet grass and the faded Wimbourne Wasp sweatshirt she'd sprayed with his cologne the year before. It'd still stuck, even though the houselves must've washed it a thousand times.
