This is where everything started - at a day-before-Halloween party that my favorite cousin decided to crash. Discussions of The Princess Bride, burning people at the stake, and wimpy Gryffindors ensued.

“James?” I asked confusedly, glancing between him and his two friends, the twins Dexter and Trix Harvey. “What are you doing here?”

“Partying,” he replied, grinning recklessly as he downed the rest of his drink. I hoped it was butterbeer, but I had to be realistic.

The Gryffindor team was now easily distinguishable – Albus was at the head, acting like the captain even though he wasn’t yet.

As if reading my mind, James muttered behind me, “I swear, I’m making Viola captain just to spite him.”
