“You're new, I'm guessing?” I jumped about a foot in the air and fell over my suitcase when I heard the smooth voice behind me. Skulduggery hissed in surprise and jumped onto the one I hadn't fallen on as I scrambled to my feet. Gritting my teeth, I turned round. And nearly fell over again.

“Odd.” Slughorn raised his eyebrows in surprise. “No effects. Both of your potions look brewed well enough to instill a murderous will to any imbiber, but it has no effect on you. Strange . . .” Slughorn sighed, “Unless you are-”

“No.” Draco almost snapped at Professor Slughorn, who turned to look up at him in mild amazement. “I mean, no Professor. It's not that.”

But then something started niggling at me. Sure, maybe I'd done something wrong, but why was I so bloody bothered about it? Why was Draco and his toned, silvery blonde, very tall self hanging around in my head like a strong perfume? Scowling, I thumped my pillow, stood up and strode out of my room.
