James wakes up the next day with an idea in his mind and, without considering the consequences, he decides to ask Briony - the girl who crashed into his room the previous night, drunk - for help with the girl he lusts after the most, Lily. When he talks to her and realizes that she finds his attempts hilarious, he almost gives up, but the talk with his friends that follows breaks something inside of him and encourages him to do something he would never have normally dared to.

James miraculously remains alive after the episode with Briony, and even gains something he has never expected he could. Later that night, after discovering another note, he takes his broom for a fly to clear his head, and in the process makes a decision.
