Lily shot me a look that could have literally blown me into pieces. “They better not try anything while I’m on watch,” she threatened, picking up the book she was reading earlier.
 
The look on Lily’s face had me praying silently for Black and Potter’s safety. This is going to be a very interesting year, indeed.

“You know my name...?” I mumbled stupidly.

“Uhm, sure. I mean, we’re in the same year,” he said, looking at me warily.

But of course. I could smack myself right now but then that would make me look even more demented. So I didn’t. I tried to shrug it off casually but it came out as some sort of odd twitch. Gaaawd, he must think I’m weird.

Now I, on one hand, hoped that on the wild chance that Greg and I would be standing next to each other, a mistletoe would so kindly appear right above us, giving me a perfectly valid excuse to snog him without appearing stalker-ish and just plain creepy. Bud do you think girls like me get that kind of luck? Well, of course not. It’s not enough that it didn’t happen that way. Oh, no. The fates seem to have it in for me and they decided to play some sick little game with poor old Ella.
 

“Give me your word, Ella,” he said anxiously.

“Oh ,alright,” I said to him and he gave a sigh of relief. Honestly, did he think I wanted to get on the wrong side of the Marauders? That would be social suicide and believe me, I don’t need that kind of trouble at this point in my life.

“You’re a gem,” he grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but smile back at him. Quite the charmer this one. But like so many of my thoughts, that is not the point. Not when the sandwiches were slowly slipping from my grasp.
