A groan on his right snapped him out of his trancelike reverie, coming from a small alley within the Alley where bins of rubbish and old forgotten things lay. Stopping at the mouth, he waited to hear the sound again, to see if he wasn’t just being jumpy and imagining things. He frowned at himself and started to walk on, but heard it as a cry of pain this time.
