Ch. # Chapter Title Word Count Reviews
1 The bet

Striding after him, he raised his voice so Urquhart would stop. “You think I couldn’t get her if I tried?”

Urquhart threw his head back and laughed out loud, “Not on your life! Granger has way too much class to be seen with the likes of you.” He started walking again to the changing rooms, but Draco caught his shoulder.

“I can get her,” Draco said with a knowing grin.

2 Veritaserum

Draco raised his eyebrows at her. “Dare to trade with me?”

Hermione scanned his face quizzically. Draco must know she had never gotten a potion wrong in her life, was he crazy to want to trade with her, of all people? “What? You don’t have any deep dark secrets, Malfoy?” said Hermione, more in shock than anything else.

“Everyone does, Granger,” said Malfoy, “Not that you’ll ever know any of them.”

3 Gone with the wind ...

She knew one thing for sure. She knew it as well as she knew the grass was green. She liked Draco Malfoy. She shouldn’t like Draco Malfoy, but she did.

4 The Hog's Head

Draco pulled a deck of cards out of the cabinet he had found the firewhisky in. “The name of the game is strip poker.”

Pansy threw her head back and laughed aloud. “Please! Do you honestly think little miss good girl Granger would play strip poker?”

Hermione downed a bottle of firewhisky in only a few large gulps. Sitting in the middle of the dirt floor, she said three words: “Deal me in.”

5 Recuperating

Hermione suddenly put her hand to her mouth and blurted, “I think I’m going to be sick.”

She darted to the bathroom as she heard Draco call from behind her, “It’s called a hangover, my dear; lovely thing to wake up to first thing in the morning. Almost as lovely as getting the shit kicked out of you!”

6 Blaise

By the time she exited the forest she was wet and covered in dirt and mud. She didn’t care. All she wanted to do was get away; get as far away from Draco Malfoy as she possibly could.

7 The truth is exposed ...

Hermione darted to her dresser, pulled open the bottom drawer, shuffled through her clothes, and glared down at the small vial of Veritaserum Draco had concocted in Potions last week. An evil grin crept over Hermione’s lips, as she realized that this was a very un-Gryffindor-like thing to do. Perhaps Draco and his Slytherin ways had rubbed off on her over the past few days after all …

8 Fine line between love and hate

Draco stood up and scooped Hermione into his strong arms, as she wrapped her arms around his neck and laced her fingers together through his soft silver hair. “Miss Scarlet O’Hara, your bed awaits you,” Draco said teasingly, imitating the book they were just reading.

9 The Secret's Out

One of the girls stepped to the front of their clique. “We were just wondering … is it true? You know, what they’re saying about you and Draco Malfoy?” The girls behind her giggled.

“Oh yeah,” Hermione nodded with a mocking grin, “Draco slipped me a love potion so now I’m madly in love with him, and we both turned into animaguses so at night we sneak into all the dormitories and curse everyone with nightmares and bad luck for seven years! Oh, and did I mention we’re vampires as well?”

10 You, and me, and the moon.

“He’ll be calling for me any day, you know,” Draco said, “And when he does, I have no choice but to go. And … I’m scared my father might find out about you. I’m afraid of what he’ll do.”

Hermione hugged him tightly. “I’m not leaving you, Draco,” she said against his neck. Draco shivered as he felt her breath tickle his smooth white skin. “I’m not leaving you,” Hermione repeated again, although Draco wasn’t sure if she was saying it to convince him or herself.

11 Detention

“I told you this would happen,” said Draco, bighting his bottom lip in hopes to ward off the sting. He ambled to the fire place and threw the powder inside and watched the flames blaze green as he stepped into it.

Hermione shook her head and grabbed his shoulder. “You’re leaving just like that? Where are you going?”

“Hermione,” he hissed through clenched teeth, “Don’t follow me. I’ll be back, but you have to promise that you won’t follow me.”

12 The Jagged Cliff

Draco didn’t know what he was doing. He knew he couldn’t very well kill Hermione – not after everything that had happened between them. Still, he raised his wand to face her. He stayed this way for a long moment, unmoving, unspeaking, unbreathing. Hermione was the only person in front of him, her hair whipping in the wind across her tear streaked face.

13 Piecing the Puzzle

Damn that Potter and his insensitivity. Sure he’d faced Voldemort before, but did Voldemort try to make him kill the only thing in the world he loved more than himself? Was his father there watching with a smile when Voldemort was torturing him? Was he the one to kill his father, watch an innocent young person die, and then spend the night wondering if the one person he loved would ever return to him? Did he murder the most feared wizard in the magical world? No, he doubted famous Harry Potter knew anything about what he had gone through.

14 The search for absolution

Halfway through dinner, Hermione began to feel worried. Draco had not yet shown up at the Slytherin table. She excused herself before desert was served and sprinted from the Great Hall. She was on her way to the Slytherin Dungeons, and then changed her mind. Instead, she went outside, and sure enough, found Draco sitting alone under a tree by the lake. The moon had begun to rise and was reflected in the middle of the great vastness of blue water. She took a seat next to him on the grass.
