Raine Avanna is returning to Hogwarts for her fourth year, and she is exceptionally happy to be seeing her best friends, the Marauders, again. As she had expected, things hadn't changed at all over summer. James and Sirius were as obnoxious as ever, Remus always sticking his nose in a book, and Lucius Malfoy still hating her guts. Unfortunately, her health hadn't changed either.

After another night of no sleep, Raine finds herself being attacked by Lucius Malfoy when she walks to potions class alone. Before he can finish her off, Remus comes and frightens Malfoy off. While up in the library, Raine begins to hear voices, one of them vaguelly familiar.

After getting a full night's sleep for once, Raine is in a cheerful mood...that is, until she receives a letter from an unknown person who threatens to rain hell upon Raine's life if she does not surrender something most precious...the crystals.
