The water was like ice to my burning skin at first. Lilly had warned me earlier, but I had ignored her, and dove in head first at a full sprint anyway. The sweat and heat that had been a product of my run seemed to emanate off my body and heat the water around me until it was a comfortable temperature, like a lukewarm bath. I broke the surface with my face and let myself float as Lilly and Chase watched me with eyes that suggested that they thought I might be insane. I didn’t mind, I was used to these looks from them.
