Ch. # Chapter Title Word Count Reviews
1 The Devil's Workday

And so there we were, making the journey to Hogwarts for our seventh and final time. But for the first time, our futures at Hogwarts looked grim, and there was almost no excitement whatsoever in going back. Everything was going to be different, I knew it. And judging by the air in the train, so did everyone else.

2 The Kids Don't Stand a Chance

“It’s a bit sad really, how some people have nothing intelligent to say so they resort to discussing other people.” I said, turning to Mia. I was flabbergasted for a moment when I found that there was no one around me, but I continued to stare emptily at the bench as if Mia would magically reappear at any moment.

3 Spitting Venom

A look of pure hatred engulfed Zabini’s defined features as he stood before Madeline, who refused to flinch. He concentrated on her for a long moment before lifting his wand and allowing the word “crusio” to escape his lips.

4 Bite Hard

“Are we banking for another detention, Miss Jones?” There was a false sense of superiority in his voice as he spoke.

“You’re going to give me detention for desiring your company?” I said in irony.

5 Falling Man

“No one in their right minds would ever dare to cross me.”

“And why is that?” I had to use the very last ounce of courage I had left in me; the rest he had stripped away with his daunting glare. He was silent for a brief moment, searching my eyes, deciding whether I could have really been so uninformed. He finally spoke, and I held my breath.

“They know what I am capable of.”

6 Hard to Explain

“I thought you wanted to be feared! I thought you wanted me to go about the school warning of your wrath! So you did not want recognition? You did not want to reassure everyone that you are a Death Eater?” His head snapped up at me at these last words, and he actually seemed genuinely offended. I awaited his reaction eagerly.

“You have some nerve.” To my utter bewilderment, his frown lightened slightly, and his anger seemed to evaporate.

7 Lo Llorrona

"Lo Llorrona" by DeVotchKa
I sensed his inward turmoil, and it pained me greatly, though I had no idea what to say, so I simply extended my hand forward and laid it to rest on top of his. He didn’t seem to notice at first, his gaze unwavering, but once a couple seconds had elapsed, his eyes shifted to examining his hands, and my fingers in between them.

8 Trans-Continental Hustle

"Trans-Continental Hustle" by Gogol Bordello
Cloaked figures would periodically appear at the gate, and glide down the path across the lawn, entering the manor. An eerie fog settled over the area, adding to the already dreary mood. The greyness that engulfed the surrounding scenery made it appear as if this house, with its grounds and occupants, was the only thing in existence. We were isolated from the rest of life; trapped inside these walls with a hoard of the darkest wizards.

9 Gypsy Part of Town

"Gypsy Part of Town" by Gogol Bordello vs. Tamir Muskat
However much I did not want to, I had to accept that these were, indeed my friends, and I should be grateful for them. We each had partaken in a trans-continental hustle this evening, together. “My contaminated friends”*. I smiled at this whimsical notion.

10 Electricity

"Electricity" by The Avalanches
“No.” I heard him kick something, so I turned to make sure he wasn’t mindlessly destroying all my furniture. He was staring at the armchair, breathing heavily, and I assumed that it was this piece he had chosen to relinquish his anger onto.

“Gosh darn it, Jones, what else could you want?” I stared blankly, unable to answer this question. He had just, seconds ago, denied me exactly what I wanted. How could I possibly say this to him aloud?

11 A Certain Romance

"A Certain Romance" by Arctic Monkeys

The Entrance Hall was cool, and dark; providing much relief from the stuffy, peopled hall that lay behind me now. I could barely distinguish between up and down, but I somehow made it out of the front door and tripped down the stairs, and out onto the grounds.

I walked, without looking ahead of me, at a very brisk pace. My feet took me around the castle, over hills, and down the path to the lake. I stopped right by the beech tree, sinking several inches into the snow while I gazed out at the glistening water.

12 Starman

"Starman" by David Bowie
I watched the light from the windows dance in the fog as I retreated further away from the castle, making my way stealthily down the path of trampled snow to the very edge of the grounds, where the gate stood, imprisoning us.

13 You Gave Up

"You Gave Up" by Gogol Bordello

He was facing me, his eyes wide open, his enlarged pupils watching me, his eyes unblinking. I told him he was lovely, and giggled in a rather ridiculous manner. I really believed I was in another world.
