“What use is a violent tree?” asked James, looking slightly concerned. Remus knew exactly what use a violent tree could be and he become so engrossed in the other boys’ suggestions that he didn’t even notice the greasy, black-haired boy until James turned to him.
 
 

 Remus bit his lip, there was no way he would be able to go exploring; tonight was the first full moon of his time at Hogwarts.
 

  “You are an egotistical pig who thinks he’s so cool because he can hex people weaker than himself in the corridors. You will never get me to say yes to you.” She folded her arms and turned away but James just smiled.
 “Challenge accepted,” he said grinning. “You’ll be sorry you said that Evans.”
 

The three boys all stood silent for a moment and suddenly they were not boys at all but animals; a great, black, bear-like dog; a tall, majestic stag and a small, skittish rat.
 
 

James followed close behind and was about to start towards the staircase when he heard his name. He turned back to Lily and her friends. They were talking about him, he couldn’t miss this.
