Ch. # Chapter Title Word Count Reviews
1 First Year, Part One: The Choice That Matters

"You don't have to be Slytherins unless you want to be!"

"What if we want to be?" Rose's mouth snapped shut.  "What's wrong with Slytherin? Merlin was a Slytherin. Did you know that? You don't have to be evil to be great."

2 First Year, Part Two: Mourning Mail

"How many cousins do you have?" Scorpius suddenly asked, looking over Grace and Albus' heads. They turned.  The other students were staring.

"There are nine of them," Albus explained with an audible groan.

3 First Year, Part Three: The Lonely Girl

The Ravenclaw raised a hand to her mouth and bit into the first knuckle of her left hand. Grace blinked at her. It was by far the weirdest mannerism she'd ever come across.

"Are you trying to become a cannibal?" The Ravenclaw blushed angrily.

"Of course not," she sneered. "I'm just irritated."

"But I'm just sitting here," Grace protested, openly laughing now.

"That's what's so irritating! Don't you have anything better to do with your time?"

4 First Year, Part Four: The Dreaming of Things

"The world is a big place, isn't it?" She nodded, following his logic.  He picked up the blue fire and held it out in front of him, staring into it as if it held all the secrets of the universe. "I think that's really exciting," he said, turning and smiling at her.

"But?" she prompted, knowing there was always a 'but'.

"But I wish I hadn't realised it so soon," he whispered. He closed his hand, and the fire went out.

5 First Year, Part Five: A Sense of Belonging

"Welcome to Godric's Hollow!" James announced, beaming proudly. He had his arms outstretched in the manner of a conductor. Grace covered her face with her hands and tried not to be too upset.

6 First Year, Part Five and Three Quarters: Case Notes

James Potter sat stiffly in the seat. Unlike his brother, he showed no nerves. His unruly hair stuck up in all directions. If Superior didn't know it was a family trait, he'd have guessed the boy had been running his hands through it agitatedly. That this confidence was all an act. After all, James was actually under some suspicion here. But maybe the boy was too angry to be in touch with his worries. His face was beginning to swell up nicely.

7 First Year, Part Six: His Saving Grace

"She's running out of time!" FIRE cackled again, finding her choice of words to be hilarious. Harry grimaced. How could she find this funny? He stared at Grace's frozen, greying face, the clamminess of her skin that was starting to sag away from her bones, and wanted to explode.

"Who?" he demanded. "Who do I need?" He'd learnt long ago that interrupting was a bad idea, but in this instance FIRE was too gleeful of her response to care.

"A pharaoh!" She cackled, and the line went dead.

8 First Year, Part Seven: The Waking Knight

Oddly, as the one who'd been unconscious for three months, she felt a great deal less attached to the incident. In a very real way, she had suffered less than her family and friends, and so she didn't particularly need to find meaning in what had happened to her. It didn't have to make sense. Perhaps it was because she was young, and in the middle of realising how little she understood about the world. She was very aware that there were many things that didn't make sense to her.

9 First Year, Part Eight: Teasing too Far

"She likes someone."

"Really?" Once again, Albus' eyes became as round as saucers. "Who?" Celia snorted and rolled her eyes like an angry horse.

"Damned if I know." Scorpius sat back, and he looked decidedly miffed. Celia actually froze. When she looked at him, her mouth started working as her lungs inflated. She was going to erupt.

"Are you being serious?" she stormed. "You have no idea?"
