Oh get on with it. Ivy thought, impatiently. She was becoming aware of how long she had been sat with this thing on her head, and the buzz of whispers had died down into silent anticipation.

Why do they always start it the same way? Ivy thought. I don’t know, I’ve won the lottery? I’m adopted? You tell me.

“MALONE!” He called up to her, and watched as Ivy’s head whipped round to see who was calling her name. She pulled her broom to a stop in mid air, about twenty feet above James’ head. She didn’t move, instead just floated there. “I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU DIDN’T FLY.”
