“Listen, just between you and me, I think you’re the foolish one.”

“I have a feeling that this isn’t the end to this.”

“Of course it isn’t.”

“You’re pathetic,” Ron hissed, shoving Harry roughly. “Get out of here. No one wants you here anymore.”

“How dare you even try to talk to me after what you did. Just stay the bloody hell away from me, Malfoy, before things get bad.”

It couldn’t literally mean watch out for people’s shadows. What shadows? What did it mean? And why was it here in this book?

His yells echoed through my mind as my heart was being ripped apart. I had to get to him, I had to help him.

“You need to listen, you need to hear me out. Don’t shun away from people, Megan. It’ll cost you.”

I was suddenly surrounded in complete darkness. I couldn’t see anything around me, I could her Draco talking to me, but I couldn’t make out the words.

“You have no choice, I’m afraid. You may be resisting me right now, but it is not much longer.”

“I’m afraid not. We’re born and told lies until we’re seventeen, when we’re forced to join the Dark Lord. Then, we’re told more lies. Kill, kill, kill… torture, torture, torture… Pretty much until we get killed by a group of Aurors or Voldemort himself.”

It hit me how truly apart I had grown from everyone else, so far that they didn’t even know me anymore. They knew nothing about me, and I knew nothing about them. I was living with a group of complete strangers.

Nobody said anything. I suppose they knew that anything they told me wouldn’t make everything better. Words seemed so foolish to use at a time like this.

But hurting people is what I always do, whether I want to or not.

“I’m sorry Megan. For everything. You were right, you were always right.”
