Summary: What if (yes, a what if fanfic) Jack and Will hadn't been cornered by the royal navy after Jack's escape form the gallows? Will follows Jack to the Black Pearl…Jack/Will slash.

To The Sea, To The Sea, Chapter 1.

Jack and Will ran until they reached the wall, that on the other side, was a long drop into the ocean.

They looked back, and saw all of the soldiers in the royal navy running over to them.

The two just looked down to the drop, back to the navy.

"Well? What's it gonna be? Her, with her 'fiance', or me, with the Black Pearl? You can see the sails, you know they're coming," Jack asked, putting his feet on the ledge, ready to jump off and dive in.

Will looked back over to Norrington, with Elizabeth following. Jack was right, she was already engaged to be married, so why stay? Besides, his blood was that of a pirate anyway.

But then again, he loved her. Would he really be so stupid as to just leave her here? Well, she accepted Norrington, and that was obviously her choice, and Will couldn't change it…

"You've been thinking too long!!" Jack said, breaking into Will's thoughts. He could see the army readying themselves. Without truly thinking over the consequences, Will made a quick decision.

"You! The Black Pearl!" And jumped up on the ledge with him.

Jack smiled, as he and Will turned and both dove off into the water.

"So, enjoy being captain again?" Will asked, checking the sails.

Jack turned to Will with an 'are you kidding me?' look. Will laughed.

"I don't know why I even asked."

"I don't know why you asked either," Jack responded.

A silence followed between the two for a bit. Then Jack spoke up,

"Miss her already?"

"Am I that easy to read?"

"Another question that doesn't need answering."

"We call that 'rhetoric,' Captain."

"We? As in, pirates we? Most of us don't know that word, in case you haven't noticed."

"That's true."

Again, a few minutes of silence.

"Don't worry, soon you'll feel at home here on the sea."

And the two exchanged smiles.

Will only hoped that Jack was right.
