His breath was in my hair, his cold arm wrapped around my body as his frozen lips
brushed against my ear. I breathed him in, willing the world away, listening only to his
voice.

I held her close, her heavenly scent making my head spin, the heat and life of her
small body filling my damned soul with light and warmth. I had to let her go before I got her
hurt or killed. Before it was too late. But I knew that it was already too late. I was in too
deep.

Bella's POV
I was drifting into sleep. I willed myself to stay awake, feeling that mine and
Edwards days were limited. But then again, when was the last time I hadn't felt that way. He
noticed that I was struggling to stay conscious.
"Go to sleep, Bella. I promise I'm not going to disappear."
"Promise?"
"With what little of a soul I have left, I swear that I will not leave tonight. Okay?"
"Mmmm…" I knew I couldn't feign sleep anymore, so I gave myself over to it's
comforting hold.

Edward's POV
Bella slowly slipped into sleep, and I watched her with fascination just as I did
almost every night on the calendar. Her head was resting on my chest, and I didn't want her
to wake up. I pressed my face into her hair. Her scent astounded me, it was so amazing. I
sighed and gently lifted her off the couch.

I carried her slowly up the stairs, taking caution not to wake her. I laid her gently on
her bed, her brown hair splaying out behind her. She stirred.

She stirred and opened her eyes just as he was going to slip out the window. She
crawled off her bed and into his arms. He held her close again. He would stay for now at
least.
