A/N: Daine and Numair are my fave couple, can you tell? There will be lots
of fluff (fluff rocks) but I'm hopefully going to get some of the thoughts
of Alanna, Buri, Thayet, etc. So maybe it's a reflection on their
relationship. I dunno, I don't write deep stuff. First fic so be NICE
when u flame at least.

Onua first noticed something different about her two friends when she went to fetch Daine and Numair from Numair's battleground. Daine had her arm slung about the tall mage's shoulder with Numair's arm around her waist, and he was leaning ever so slightly on her. They had always been close, but it was different this time…
Onua pushed the thought aside as she greeted her first friend. "Numair—we were worried," she exclaimed, hugging him. Tahoi and Kitten went to greet Daine enthusiastically. She laughed and submitted to Tahoi's slobbery attentions while Kitten peeped angrily at her.
"We were about to send out searching parties for the two of you," Tkaa said in his silvery voice. He looked sternly at Daine. "That was a very foolish thing to do."
Daine bowed her head. "I know. I just—had to find him before a straggler did." She smiled up at Numair, who patted her shoulder.
"Good thing she did. I think she revived me more than a healer could." He winced as he pulled away from Onua's hug. "I still need attention, though."
"Can you make it back to camp?" Daine asked. Numair shrugged, and she could see the weariness in his eyes. "I'd put you on Cloud, but you're a bit big."
Cloud snorted. Try to put the stork-man on me and I'd collapse.
Daine laughed and rubbed her mare's forelock before returning to the problem at hand. "If you had your Gift…"
"It's all gone." The mage held up his hands. The black fire that normally sparkled around it was nowhere to be seen. "And Onua's Gift is only good for hiding things."
"Thanks ever so," his friend replied.
"We could hide you here…" Daine started, but stopped. Kitten, who had been listening intently, gave a harsh trill. Numair rose in the air until his knees were head-height. Daine's arm slipped until she and the mage were holding hands.
"Did you know she could do that?" they both exclaimed, and there was a laugh from Onua and Tkaa.
Numair carefully lowered himself to a sitting position, still clutching Daine's hand. "Interesting," he mused. "I will be sure to study this when I have the strength." He looked at Kitten. "Can I move?"
The dragon trilled a higher note and blew gently on Numair. He began to float slowly forward, Daine trotting alongside. Kitten followed, still breathing on him, and Onua, Tahoi, Cloud, and Tkaa brought up the rear.
Onua, observing her two friends, noticed that they still held each others' hands. They look at each other differently too, she thought. She ended her thinking in sight of Port Caynn. Ah, well, I suppose this war's changed all of us a little.

A/N: How didja like it? Not too much pointless fluff yet, some coming soon I promise. R&R.
