When I think about the cross ,

NO words can describe

the awe that I feel

at the price you paid.

When I think of the cross

and the agony you suffered

My mind just can't comprehend

a love so great.

You gave it all, you gave yourself

you, the king of eternity

allowed yourself to experience death

For lost, uncaring people.

Your creation in rebellion

Forsaking you, the master of all,

You could have brought this world to an end

Yet you chose to give the gift of life.

And what a life, what a hope!

Can any words fitly describe it?

Life with you, by your love surrounded,

through the challenges and struggles we face.

Then, when this life is all over

We will be forever with you!

This is our hope this sustains us

And were it not for the cross this could not be.

O, if not for the cross, what a dreary prospect,

the eternal future of pain and woe

This is what we deserve for our rejection

But in faith we receive eternal, blissful life!

Because of the cross and the empty tomb

Because of your life, death and resurrection

We, who were your enemies are free

to live forever in your love.

O how special was the life you lived,

How full of beauty and truth your teachings,

Yet, more meaningful and precious than anything

Are the cross and the empty tomb.

One stands for the price you paid

When you gave yourself as an offering

One stands for victory over death

And for the life and the hope we have in you.
