Lizzie and Darcy had only been dating for a couple of weeks. So far everything was going wonderfully. They had been out to dinner a couple of times, finally went to the theatre and had even seen a movie one night. Tonight they had decided to stay in and order Chinese.

Lizzie and Darcy were sitting in the living room of Darcy's apartment talking about their days at work when the doorbell rang signalling the arrival of the food. Darcy stood up and walked to the front door and paid for the food.

At the same time Lizzy had grabbed her purse to pull out some money.

"How much was dinner?" Lizzie asked,

"It's fine," Darcy replied, "I've got it."

"You always pay for dinner, I'd at least like to contribute."

Darcy was shocked. Lizzie had never mentioned anything like this before.

"I just want to feel like I am giving something to this relationship." Said Lizzie

"You are." Argued Darcy

"No I'm not. You pay for everything. I can pay for things myself you know. I don't want people thinking I am with you for your money." She yelled

"I don't care what others think. I know you love me so that's all that matters."

Lizzie sighed. "You just don't get it. I want to be your equal not a kept woman."

Darcy took a deep breath. He could see where Lizzie was coming from but didn't like the idea of her having to spend her money when he had plenty for the both of them. He told Lizzie what he was thinking.

"Ok so we both see where the other is coming from, we just need to work this out. We can share small costs and you don't need to keep buying me things. I know you like buying things for me but I don't need something new every time we see each other. We can share costs and see how that goes." Offered Lizzie

"I'll try," answered Darcy as he pulled Lizzie closer, "I guess that was our first fight."

"Yeah," said Lizzie wrapping her arms around Darcy's waist. "I guess it was."
