Negi stood at the bottom of the world tree gazing up at the gigantic branches the tree had grown. Even after years of teaching at Mahora he still hadn't gotten tired of spending his afternoons under the world tree. It was quite nice to get some nice, quiet time away from the rest of the world. Unfortunately he did not often get the chance for some peaceful time alone. After the final battle with the mage of the beginning he had gained quite a lot of fame in the magical world and on Earth he had also become famous due to his part in the space elevator project. On top of all the reporters and fans, he also had his old class to deal with. They had graduated quite some time ago but they all met quite often and always caused trouble for him.
"So what are you thinking, Negi?," said the whie ermine currently perched on his shoulder, "you know that you have to pick one of them, right?" "Yes, I know Chamo," Negi sighed, "but if I choose one then the others will be hurt, and if I don't then they'll all be. I don't know what to do!" Negi slumped forward in defeat. "Well, you have until tonight to make your decision so at least that's something, right?" Negi didn't even bother to answer.
"You know Negi, you can't get anything done by just sitting around you know?" said a voice from behind him. As Negi turned the voice continued. "You see Negi, you're at a crossroads. No matter what decision you make it will affect the rest of your life," said his father, Nagi, with his trademark grin, "you're going to have to choose, and soon too. Make sure that your choice is a good one." with that his father walked off leaving Negi to think.
As Negi watched the crimson sunset he made up his mind. He stood up and walked back to the campus to tell his class his decision.
