A/N: Hey guys. This is my first fanfic (I'm not done) and I just wanted to
know if it was any good...you know whether to continue or not so you tell me.
PLEASE R/R. I'm totally open to suggestions and/or criticism. Thanx!
P.S.: To those who's read True Colors...I'm terribly sorry for suddenly taking it out. I had some things to take care of so I apologize because I know how much I hate it when I like a fic and they never continue. Thank you for understanding.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. Only the plot.
*~*~*
She emerged from platform 9 and ¾ entering a very crowded location. Letting the cool breeze flow through her hair, she looked up with a light smile playing across her face. There in front of her, with its loud and roaring engine, deep red paint coat, bright golden letters and its many compartments being occupied by the in coming students, was that same express train she knew only too well. Her ticket to a magnificent place were the unimaginable is imagined, where the impossible happens and where everything is pure magic. Hogwarts.
Hermione Granger stood there; in the middle of the crowd hanging on to her baggage, being prodded, pushed and pulled by her fellow schoolmates and at the moment, all she could do was smile. She was going back after such a long summer of spending with her family. This was the first summer, ever since her first year, which she did not spend with her friends.
At the end of last term last year, her parents had kindly asked her if, for just this summer, they could spend it with each other. Alone. It seemed to them that ever since she came to Hogwarts, she has secluded herself from her "old life". Even during the holidays she chooses to be with her friends and stay at the castle instead of being with the people she hardly ever sees.
This caught Hermione off guard. "How could they think I'm excluding them in my life?" Hermione thought. But she soon realized what they meant and instantly felt awful and ashamed. She remembered quite clearly that last year; she left their Christmas vacation early and instead went to the Headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix. "But they seemed fine then..."
So she decided that this time, she wasn't going to do anything that had to do with the wizarding world. "A whole summer dedicated to just my family."
It didn't end up being the best summer. She did spend the entire time with her family after all. But she had fun, she really did. They started to do the same stupid things they used to do as a family. She'd forgotten how much she missed them and how good it felt to be with them. But now, it was time to go back.
One of the main reasons she was so excited, was seeing her two best friends again. Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. She can never stop herself from smiling whenever she thought about them. They've just been such a part of her life that she couldn't imagine what she would be like if they had never met. It's as though they helped each other be who they are now.
She taught them about responsibility and the importance of education, sure they still copy homework, flunk tests and goof around in class but the point is, in the end they always try their hardest to get the best marks.
And as for them, well they taught her how to be fun, how to be loose and just let your hair down once in a while. That it isn't good for your health or for those around you when you're constantly stressing over assignments and projects.
"Too much worrying will give you gray hair. Sorry 'Mione but I don't think that would suit you too well." Ron's voice instantly invaded her mind and it made her smile. "Oh Ron, I can't wait to see you and Harry" Hermione said to herself. And with that, she started towards the train.
Hermione climbed up the entrance of the train with great difficulty. Walking with the kind of baggage she had, which consisted of her robes, other accessories and countless books cannot be easy for anybody, especially for someone of her size. Just as she finally got inside the corridor, one of her bags had slipped and dropped on the floor. Not realizing this immediately, she clumsily tripped over it.
"This is so embarrassing" Hermione quickly closed her eyes, waiting for the impact, waiting for the roars of laughter she was sure she'd endure after this incident.
But it never came. No laughter. In fact, she hadn't even hit the floor. Someone had grabbed her around the waist and on the arm from behind, supporting her. They had placed Hermione back on her feet but before she had the chance to say thank you, the stranger was gone. All she saw was of the door of the compartment in front of her close. Hermione was about to knock to find out who it was that saved her from utter humiliation but she heard noises and the corridor was suddenly swarmed with a new group of students getting on.
"I'll do it later. I'll get killed if I don't get inside." Hermione made her way to her compartment with one thought flirting in her mind. "Whoever that person was, they had strong hands. Really warm too." She blushed to herself wondering who it could be. But before she could go any further with it, she saw something that made her heart beat excitedly.
"'Mione! Finally, what took you so long?" Ron and Harry stood there, side by side smiling at her. It's been too long. Her eyes, ridiculously, began to tear up.
Ron was smiling, looking very red and freckleish as usual. He also seemed to have grown in height but all in all, he looked as handsome as ever. Then there was Harry, who stood beside him looking at her with those amazing green eyes.
Harry looked different somehow. He looked grown up. Mature. "Merlin knows he's been through enough" He wasn't the same skinny four-eyed little boy she remembers from their first few years as friends. He's done a lot of growing up and it shows. His face has gotten older and very refined. Though he definitely still has that boyish look that makes all girls swoon in front of him. Every time he smiles he makes your mind go blank and focus on him and those green eyes.
Through out their years at Hogwarts, Ron and Harry have deservedly become one of the more popular guys at school. Not only because they were both in the Gryffindor Quidditch team, which has won a number of games, and not only because they're both extremely good looking but because of their striking personality.
They weren't your typical popular guys. They weren't stupid jocks who strut around thinking too much about themselves. Who dumped their friends as soon as they made the cool list. They were modest and down to earth. They were polite and friendly to everybody. And they always get that adorable look on their face anytime a girl comes up to them, either to ask them out on a date or comment on how attractive they are or to flirt shamelessly with them.
Ron of course had his fair share of ladies in waiting but Harry was different. People like Ron, they enjoy his company but with Harry, well, you fall in love with him. There was a time when Hermione had those feelings for him, back in third year. Just a little one but still a crush nonetheless. How could she ever tell him that she herself had been one of those girls who giggled at the thought of him.
"Well what are you waiting for, just standing there? We don't see you all summer and we don't get a hug?" Ron's hearty voice broke through her thoughts. She looked up and realized she was just staring at them like a mindless idiot.
Hermione took a deep breath and said "Ron. Harry. I'm sorry." She rushed to them and gave each one, one of her death grip hugs.
"You cannot believe how dull life is without you guys. I've missed you." Saying something she's been wanting to say all summer.
"We missed you too 'Mione but c'mon, you can't have missed us enough to start tearing up about it." Ron teased but Hermione didn't mind. She missed them crazy and seeing them again made her heart ache of happiness. "Well c'mon now, lets get in."
When Ron picked up her luggage and turned to get inside their compartment, Hermione reached up to wipe her eyes but Harry got there first. He gently caressed her cheek.
"I missed you." He said softly.
"I know Harry." Hermione offered a smile knowing he meant it.
Harry touched her arm before he went in after Ron. Hermione suddenly let out a very soft quite gasp. She touched her arm just where Harry had. Next thing, she found herself looking behind her back, down the corridor at the closed compartment door that hid the identity of her helper.
She shook her head, not quite understanding. It was simply a person who caught her when she fell. Why is she making such a fuss about it? It's not a big deal. Deciding that she was being ridiculous, she went in, knowing deep inside, the reason why she wanted to find out so badly, was that there was something there when the stranger had held her. Something that felt good.
*~*~*
A long but interesting talk, constant interruptions from visiting friends, a good giggle fest over Ron's new found crush on a Hufflepuff and a heavy snacking session from the food trolley later Hermione found herself outside in the corridor walking towards that same compartment door. She couldn't believe she was actually going to do this.
She kept thinking of what she was going to say. "Hi. I'm Hermione, I'm a prefect if you didn't know. Anyway, you caught me today just outside here when I fell. Yes I know it was hours ago but I just wanted to say thank you...oh! And also I just wanted to see who it was that gave me that unknown feeling when you held me. Why?...because it felt really good, would you mind doing it again?"
"Well doesn't that sound stupid." She mumbled to herself.
Unfortunately for Hermione, she was too caught up in her own thoughts that she missed the fact that the occupant of the room she was pursuing had just left. All she saw was a glimpse of the heel of a shoe turning a corner into another compartment that sounded like it was having a little party. "Bullocks." She would've kicked herself.
Thinking that was the end of it, Hermione was about to turn around when curiosity got the better of her. Telling herself that taking a quick peek in the room isn't at all bad or invading someone's privacy. The person was, after all, not there to see.
Not being able to take it anymore, she rushed to the door and opened it. Slowly and quietly. As soon as she looked inside, she let out a groan and then a frown. A bubble of regret, anxiety and confusion was suddenly very present in her tummy.
The interior of the compartment was completely empty save for two things. There was a smell; she could tell it was expensive cologne. It was spicy but sweet enough. And a black cloak. A black and green cloak with a symbol of a snake sewn on the top left of the clothing. A Slytherin.
