SECOND CHANCE WITH THE SECRETARY
AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER
Kind of a coda to the episode "But Can She Type?" cause I sort of liked Jonathan Frakes' character, Steve. Twilight Zone belongs to Rod Serling and whoever was involved with the 80s reboot of the show.
Steve Harris was at another one of Annie's parties and sitting by the bartender. Wonder if that secretary will show up again, he thought to himself. Probably not. Man, he had kind of blown it. He had made a complete fool of himself, and besides, why did he even think that he even had a shot with her? She was a secretary for crying out loud, which meant that she could have any guy she wanted. Why would he want an actor like him? No, she had probably found someone at work, maybe a guy who had a secretary and knew how to treat her. He then shook off this thought and turned to the bartender.
"Another vodka," he requested.
"You sure?" the bartender questioned. "You just told me that you have a call back in the morning. Surely you don't want to show up hung over," he reminded and the other man shrugged.
"One or two more won't kill me," he responded. Doesn't matter anyway, he silently groused. He was completely and utterly in love with a woman he couldn't have.
"Okay," the other man said and went to pour him a drink. Once the glass was full, Steve took it and took a small swig.
"Hey. Is this seat taken?" Hearing the familiar voice, Steve coughed a little as he turned around. No way. It can't be, he thought to himself. But yet…it was. It was the secretary he had met several parties ago. Great. I look like an idiot again, he thought miserably.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," she apologized.
"It's okay. I'm good," he managed to tell her.
"You know, I'm really glad I ran into you again," she stated.
"You-you are?" he asked, trying to stop his voice from squeaking. She was happy to see him? No way. Why would she want to see me? he wondered.
"Yes. We didn't get a chance to get to know one another at that last party. Is there some place quiet we can go sit and talk to one another?" she queried.
"Yeah, of course," he responded. I can't believe I'm getting a second chance with her, he thought to himself. Hopefully, she couldn't hear how loud his heart was thumping, because that would be embarrassing as hell.
