Author's Notes: This story idea has been in my head for a good minute now, and I am glad I was able to get the Prologue done! This will be different from Naked in a lot of ways - I want to say the only common thing is that the OC in this one is also a descendant of Wakanda as well. But two completely different story lines. Also I would just like to not if anyone has ever watched Everybody Hates Chris, I based Audrey's dad off of the dad from there as well as add in some aspects of my own dad as well. I hope you all enjoy!

Prologue

"Summertime in Virginia was an oven,

All the kids eating ice cream with their cousins,

I was studyin' while you was playing the dozens, dozens,

Don't act like you was there when you wasn't," – Runnin'; Pharrell Williams

Summer days in Oakland, California were long and hot. It was not uncommon to see the many apartment complexes that resided in the city with several windows up and their residents outside fanning themselves. It was in fact very normal. It was also very normal to see the children out and playing in such a heat as well.

Out for summer break, this was the children's only time of complete freedom before returning to the routine of learning and studying in the fall. They took this time for themselves and spent most of it playing outside with their neighbors and friends, eating ice cream with their cousins, and having street wide water parties with someone's water hose or sprinkler. Some even had the luxury of going on vacations with their families, but for the residents of a particular apartment complex, that wasn't the case.

In one of Oakland's most crime infested neighborhoods was the 3rd Street Apartment Complex. For many of the children there, just playing outside on the basketball court was enough of a vacation for them. Even if you weren't playing basketball, the large court was used by all the children – adults included too – to do various activities. Those activities could range from basketball to hopscotch and small talk with neighbors to cook outs. Summer time was everyone's time to relax and play.

Everyone except Audrey Okafor.

Audrey Okafor was the youngest and only girl of Kojo and Aretha Okafor. The Okafors were a low middle-class family of six that lived on the fourth floor in a three-bedroom apartment in the complex. Kojo Okafor was a high school graduate Wakandan who worked up to three jobs. He was a very tall, lean man with a dark complexion and a very thick accent. Aretha Okafor was a light complexion woman from Georgia with warm brown eyes and a dimpled smile. She worked as a maid for a five-star hotel in the nicer parts of Oakland. The couple had four kids; Kojo Jr. – who they called KJ –, Martin and Silas – the twins –, and Audrey – the baby.

Everyone on 3rd street knew the Okafors; they knew Kojo woke up in the early hours of the morning to start his day at work, they knew Aretha would always walk all the children on the block to school, they knew KJ, Martin, and Silas were always outside playing and getting into trouble. And they knew – no matter what – little Audrey was always inside studying.

It did not go unnoticed at all by the neighborhood how the youngest of the Okafor family always had a book in her face or a pencil in her hand. At one point of time, it was once rumored that it was just the harsh treatment of her parents towards her, but that was later debunked when several witnesses caught Aretha practically begging the child to go play with her brothers. Many soon came to realize that was just who the child was.

Audrey loved to learn, she loved to study, and she loved figuring things out – with only being four years of age too. She was far ahead several children her age, and was expected to start the 1st grade soon. She was indeed a very peculiar little girl and everyone knew it. This; however, caused there to be a rift between Audrey and the rest of the community. They viewed her differently from everyone else and she knew it. This rift was made even bigger when Audrey started elementary at an all exclusive, private school in the upper part of Oakland. She wouldn't be attending the community school that every kid on the block went to.

No – she was far too good for that.

This became the thoughts of many of the adults on 3rd Street and this soon was picked up by their children. Eventually no one barely interacted with Audrey, which put her in a lonely position because she felt just as much as an outsider at her predominantly white school. She was shunned by both the people who looked and didn't look like her. The only people who brought her comfort were her family – who was proud of her in so many ways – and her down the hall neighbor, Mr. N'Jobu. Mr. N'Jobu was always kind to her as well as son, Erik; however, her dad warned her heavily not to associate with them. Audrey saw this as strange since Mr. N'Jobu was Wakandan just like her dad, but neither less followed her dad's orders.

Despite the backlash she received from both black and white, Audrey stayed dedicated to what she loved doing – and not for her own sake, but also her families as well as the black community as a whole. Though she was shunned, Audrey loved her heritage and where she came and wanted nothing more than to bring improvements and inspiration to all blacks. Though only being on the Earth for a couple of years, Audrey was not blind to the evil brought upon people with dark skin. She was very aware of the discrimination, oppression, and poverty that plagued anyone that looked like her. She was very aware and wanted nothing more than change.

So, she studied – none stop.

If only Audrey knew how far this would take her.
