Tiamat's Child

A puddle of blood above, fast staining water below. Hinoto's breath comes with effort, freezing in her lungs. She is still, burned and burning, charred with too-cold air.

Kanoe is gone.

She is alone.

She hugs herself, trying to even out the heat and chill within her. She looks up, not flinching as drops of blood mark freckles on her cheeks. It's something of Kanoe.

Only a dream. Only.

But Kanoe is dead and Hinoto's thoughts are full of shadows and the rhythm of the blood. Gather and fall and splash. Again. And again.

Tears come.

Gather, fall, and speak.
