Jimmy looked out into the open seas, all he could see was the waves of the ocean & the sun casting a purple blanket over the sky as it began to set. It was only five months since the death of Kong, and Jimmy was still aboard The Venture as the cabin boy. Jack Driscoll joined them on the voyages, but only to keep an eye on Jimmy and aid them in some fights; Jimmy looked down & saw a page. It was from his book "Heart Of Darkness," but Jimmy had thought he threw it overboard after the death of Hayes. Jimmy read the page, it was the same page he had asked Mr.Hayes about four months ago. Jimmy ripped it to the shreds & broke down in tears. He gripped the railing and tried to regain his composure, but he knew he couldn't...Mr.Hayes was far more important to him than anything in this world. Jimmy saw a black leather shoe step towards him, he narrowed his eyes & met the face of Jack Driscoll. "I'm a baby, and I know it. Just say it..I'm a coward. I'm a coward and I failed Mr.Hayes!" Jimmy sobbed.
Jack offered his hand & pulled Jimmy to his feet, he firmly grasped Jimmy's shoulders & smiled at him softly. "Jim, if you think for a moment that I would say you are a coward...then you are by far the dumbest kid I know. You think you aren't brave when really you have showed me you have guts...you didn't kill yourself, you didn't even think it after Hayes died. THAT is courage, Jimmy." Jimmy finally fell into Jack's arms and sobbed for the longest time, clutching his shirt & not wanting to let go. Because Jimmy felt something for the first time in four months...he felt relieved. After finally pulling apart, Jack took Jimmy in his arms & carried him to the cage where he slept. "Mr. Hayes, was my father..." Jimmy said softly, Jack took Jimmy's hand & squeezed it; he looked at him & stared at him gently. "Then, I guess I'm your brother." Jack smiled & left the cage.
