Ruby hated fireworks.
The colors were pretty enough. The way they lit up the sky was fascinating. It was the boom. The sound that followed once they burst into the darkness. It was the wolf that hated them the most. It made her jump, her facial expression would tense, and sometimes, without even realizing it, she would whine.
Belle sat close by, her head resting on her loves shoulder as she watched them light up the night. She smiled at the colors when they poured down, disappearing into night. Her head bounced when Ruby jumped at the loud sound that followed the largest firework. She furrowed her brow and raised her head to look at Ruby.
"Are you okay?" she inquired, wrapping her arm around her girlfriend, concern lacing her voice.
Ruby swallowed hard, her features still tense with fear. "Yeah, I-I just..." Her face scrunched adorably. "I don't like the boom."
"Aww." Belle pouted, playfully. She raised her hand running her fingers through Ruby's dark hair. "We can go. I don't want you to sit through this if it makes you uncomfortable."
Ruby shook her head. "No, it's okay. I know how much you love this." She turned to Belle and flashed a small smile. "I can deal with it." She turned her attention back to the sky and watched as another firework flew upward. Her body tensed and she jumped when the loud boom filled the area around them.
Belle continued to stroke her hair in an attempt to sooth her, but it wasn't working. Ruby's hands were fidgeting. Her jaw twitching as she clenched her teeth preparing for the noise that followed the vivid colors. She didn't like seeing Ruby this way. She was supposed to be enjoying this, but she was completely on edge.
Belle bit her lip in thought until she smiled, finally coming up with a resolution. "I have an idea." She shifted her position, sitting behind Ruby so she was between her legs. She moved in closer, pressing Ruby's back against her front.
Ruby glanced over her shoulder, flashing her a curious look. "What are you doing?"
"Trust me." Belle whispered, turning Ruby's head so she was facing forward. She placed her hands over her ears blocking out the world around her.
Another firework went up and Belle waited. There was a loud boom and Ruby sat perfectly still, her eyes focused on the color as it trickled down, disappearing into the earth. Belle smiled, turning Ruby's head so she was looking at her again.
She removed her hands for a just a moment. "Better?"
A perfect smile spread across Ruby's face. "Much." She leaned closer and kissed her girlfriends beautiful lips. She pulled back slowly and looked into her eyes. "You're the best."
Belle chuckled lightly. "Well, I do try." she remarked, placing her hands back over Ruby's ears. She sighed contently when Ruby leaned back into her, resting her hands on Belle's knees. Belle lightly kissed Ruby's cheek and they enjoyed the rest of the fireworks without any fear...
