A Dragon's Flame Burns On

poem about the tragedy of war. The war Against the Empire in a poem. Sort of like the things Brom tells Eragon in the first book, and Eragon's poem in the second.

1. Part One

Murtagh… Morzan…

Eragon… Brom…

A matching name,

A fitting title,

A world without reason,

Dragons prowl,

Sing and soar,

Blasting out their fiery roar.

Blasting out a tongue of fire,

Causing death and awe and wonder.

Setting cities ablaze.

Shruikan… Thorn

All evil titles.

Saphira… Glaedr

Peaceful names.

Working wars,

But not starting,

Holding flags, but never failing.

Never mad, or hopelessly lost,

Among the burning embers.

Never dark and never evil,

Never caused unnecessary harm,

Not to cause distress when not needed.

But some still do.

Some seek revenge for things they started.

Evil creatures,

Cursed and shamed by those who do not follow.

Galbatorix... Shruikan

Murtagh... Thorn

They seek to rid the world of good,

Stealing hearts,

Not theirs.

Others suffer,

Do they care?

It's all about power.

To set the world ablaze.

Spinning lies.

And yet, among this tragedy,

A dragons flame burns on.
