(A/N): Hey Guys! So, this is set just after City of Glass and Eldest, but some parts from Brisingr are in it. I hope you like it, considering it's one of the two stories for this category.

Disclaimer: I own nothing but the sub-plot line.

Prologue

Jace

The Clave had called us to Idris for a special meeting, all of us from the New York Institute except for Maryse and Robert Lightwood, someone had to stay behind to run the institute, after-all. So when, we reached the Hall of Accords we were all rather nervous, except for me of course. For some reason I can't fathom, they had asked us to bring the Daylighter, Simon along. Five minutes after we had arrived, The new Inquisitor, Martin Jacobs, exited the Hall and beckoned us inside. Standing in front of the Clave, we waited to see why they had called us here.

"Ah, I see you're all here." One of the Clave members said, staring down at us from his seat on the raised platform, making me resist the urge to say 'well, duh'.

"The reason we called you here is because we have a special mission for you." Another Clave member spoke up, causing me to glance around at my friends and family. What could they possibly want us for, Alec is the only one over eighteen here.

"The High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane, has agreed to help us send you through a portal." Magnus waved us slightly from the other side of the room when the Clave wasn't looking.

"Now, this isn't just any portal, it's a portal to another world." What? Are they crazy?
"There is a world, joined to this one, that is in the midst of a Great War, and they have requested the help of us Shadow hunters, and we want to help them." This still doesn't explain what it has to do with us.

"This still doesn't explain what it has to do with us. I mean, every other mission like this one we've wanted to go on you've denied us the opportunity because we were too young. What's the difference now?" I asked stubbornly, glaring at the Clave members in front of me.

"Well, we have selected your group because of how experienced you all are, and because of how young you are. No one will suspect you if they think that you're just a bunch of teenagers." It made sense, yes, but why would people suspecting us be a problem. Voicing that, a Clave member smiled at me kindly.

"Because, this battle is fierce, and the opposition would surely kill a bunch of teenagers just to get what they wanted. You are to be on the side of the Varden, as they are the ones who requested our help. But beware, their politics are just as deadly as their swords." I saw Clary's eyes widen out of the corner of my eye and I fought the urge to smile at her.

"When do we leave?" I asked quietly, my mind already made up.

"As soon as Mr. Bane gets the portal open." Magnus snorted, drawing attention to him and what he was standing next to. It was a large hole in the wall, filled with what looked to be wisps of light in a dark cave, colours flashing every now and again. First black, then blue, then gold, followed by blood red and then finally, green.

"Already done." Taking a deep breath I stepped up to the portal and seeing the Clave members nod, I stepped forward into empty space. I felt like I was choking, like my innards were trying to force their way out of my mouth, like I was being crushed to death, my oxygen fading quickly before I slammed, face first, into the ground. Sitting up, I rubbed the dirt from my face and looked around. I was in a clearing, surrounded by tall pine trees. Where the hell was I?
