Excerpt from the report of special agent Dana Scully

To: as. Dir. Walther Skinner, FBI

As I was assigned to this section few years ago, I started my cooperation with Special Agent Fox Mulder. My initial - although informal - goal (clearly suggested by my superiors) was to observe, report about and – if that was possible – question Mulder's achievements on the project known as the "X files". As I am a medical doctor with a background in hard science, my job was to provide an analytical prospective on the work and personality of Special Agent Fox Mulder, who's investigations into the paranormal were fueled by a personal belief that his sister had been abducted by aliens when he was 12. In time I was expected to find other motifs and factors driving agent Mulder to his extraordinary way of work and life.

After countless cases – some of them I may consider as a success, while others sank in the Sea of Unknown – and years spent with Fox Mulder on his work, also knowing him much better in his private life, I think I might explain some doubts that I once had about his personality and behavior.

What others have mistaken as a monomania, personality issues or other health/metal problems I prefer not to name in this report, could be explained in much easier way. For the period I was cooperating with agent Mulder I made my own observations, showing some traits of his character in a different light. The truth is hard for me to accept, although as a medical doctor, subjected to strict rules of examining and giving diagnosis to any patient I have under my care, I must conclude my suspicions, doesn't matter how hard these could be.

I am aware that my personal relation to agent Mulder could cloud my scientific judgment. That's why for years I tried to postpone giving that final diagnosis, looking the problems in others, including myself. However after so many years of observation and simply upholding more than a professional acquaintance with agent Mulder I feel that I am ready to put my premonition in few precise words.

All the data I gathered for that time are justifying me to formulate a simple, although shocking theory, I have never included in my earlier inquisitions. From my knowledge, experiences and intuitions I must shape a conclusion about my partner.

Special Agent Fox Mulder is gay.
