His father always told him he was too young — that he didn't know what he was doing.

Too young to ride a bike.

Too young to drink.

Too young to start dating.

And when he brought Cece home for the first time, his mom just about lost it. Cece was everything she despised in a girl; she dressed like a delinquent and was far from the conservative, well-mannered girls that his parents wanted him to bring home. To top it all off, she was a Shiksa and a "bad influence" on him with her short skirts and wild hair. She'd only bring him down, they said.

But Bullfrog loved her. He loved her from the moment he saw her. She was witty and smart and had great taste in music. In his eyes, she was perfect and he didn't care what his parents thought — he was going to be with her.

They were 21 when Cece got pregnant. They'd been sexually active for years, but had always been careful, so it came as quite a shock. He was terrified. They were just out of their teens and neither had their college degree yet, and while most guys would've ditched their girlfriends and left them to deal with it on their own, Bullfrog didn't. He wasn't a coward. He was going to stick by her no matter what.

He dropped out of school. He'd never been the "studious" type anyway. If it hadn't been for Cece's tutoring, he probably wouldn't have even graduated high school. But he did have a personality, and people generally liked him, and so he found a job in no time, as an assistant to a radio host.

They got married when she was about five months pregnant and rented a small apartment, since his parents had all but disowned him at this point and hers refused to help. They managed to get by, though.

Eli was early by two weeks.

He remembered being in the hospital room, watching his wife as she cooed down at their newborn son.

"My little Elijah… my perfect baby boy… yes you are!"

Eli was small, but he was healthy, and that's all that mattered.

Nothing could have prepared him for what would happen years later.

Now, Bullfrog finds himself in a hospital room with his son. His son who has just crashed his car on purpose and lays bandaged and broken in more ways than one. He's asleep, but Bullfrog can make out the tears staining his cheek and has to swallow hard to keep himself composed. Sitting by Eli's bed, be puts his head in his hands.

He has no idea what to do, and in the back of his mind, he can hear his father's voice telling him, "You're too young. You don't know what the hell you're doing."

And for the first time in his life, Bullfrog realizes how right he was.
