Found Out
As he walked through the mall with Sam, Teal'c spotted a book in the display case of Barnes and Noble. "Such a book would be most helpful in deciphering the various Tauri phrases I so often hear," the Jaffa thought to himself. "CaptainCarter, if you do not mind I will spend a few moments in this book store," he said.
"Sure T…Murray. How about I meet you back here in fifteen minutes?" She had wanted to go to Victoria's secret anyway, and although she usually enjoyed Teal'c's company, she didn't feel she knew him well enough to go bra shopping with him. Teal'c nodded and turned away, walking into the book store.
Teal'c went to the shelf and picked up the book: A Dictionary of English Slang, Idioms, and Sayings. "This will be helpful indeed."
…9 years later…
"Teal'c!"
"O'Neill."
"What's this?"
"I believe it is a book, O'Neill."
"I know it's a book."
"Then why did you a-"
"Cut the crap Teal'c. You've been found out."
"I do not understand your anger, O'Neill."
"AH! You…you…" General O'Neill's frustration with his Jaffa friend was reaching a boiling point.
"Is a feline in possession of your tongue, O'Neill?
"…It's 'cat got your tongue' and …for crying out loud…TEAL'C! I know what you've been doing the past 9 years. Saying these clichés and using the wrong, albeit larger and more complex, words. You probably got them all out of this book, didn't you. How did I not see this before? It's so obvious. 'Undomesticated Equines,' Teal'c? There aren't any horses on Chulak, and even if there were, I doubt there'd be a Jaffa saying that had the exact same meaning but used larger and more complex words! You must have heard someone say something about 'wild horses blah blah blah' and you looked it up in this here book and got out your little thesaurus and changed it around. Telling Daniel that things won't be calming down, but are certain to 'calm up.' Or 'are you considering the same tactic as I,' or 'They do not build them as they once did.' You think it's funny, don't you, when I correct you. Is that your way of playing mind games with me? Trying to be…funny." And with that statement came realization. "Oh. Ha! So the big man does have a sense of humor! Just took me nearly a decade to realize." Jack chuckled as Teal'c raised his eyebrow, a small smile on his face.
"It is true, I will admit, but I am not the only one here who feigns ignorance for my own amusement," he said as he turned and walked away.
Jack stood there dumbfounded. "Hmm…looks like I've been found out too."
