Summary: What if John wasn't able to get to Dean? What if he only managed to get Sammy out? Leaving Mary and Dean to die a fiery death?

Timeline: 2 November 1983

John was paralyzed by the burning house collapsing in front of him, in his arms he held a slumbering Sammy.

"Mr. Winchester?" a firefighter asked as they approached the silent father. "Was there anyone else inside the house?"

"Mary," he whispered as he blinked past the tears that had gathered in his eyes. "Dean."

"Are you saying that your wife and son are still in the house?"

"Yes," he gasped out. "Yes," he replied stronger as he pulled his eyes away from the paralyzing sight. "I couldn't get to them," he stated as his eyes glazed over from the pain. "I couldn't get to them."
