Hey everyone. This story was brought to you by Pop Figure Collection, and The Insane Prompt Challenge on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For Pop Figure Collection I wrote for Nico Minoru's Black Dress - (drink) Whisky, Staff - (prompt) Write about someone hitting rock bottom, and Gloves - (action) cleaning. For The Insane Prompt Challenge I wrote prompt number 121. Concerned about someone else's behavior. Warning for alcoholism. I hope you all enjoy Sad Truths.
The empty whiskey bottle that sits by Remus's chair breaks Sirius's heart as he walks into their living room to check on his husband. Remus hadn't always been like this. He'd used to care what people thought of him but then Severus had to go and make accusations of Remus trying to harm his students. Being a werewolf like Remus was this was grounds for dismissal.
"Remus," he called out not seeing the sandy haired man sitting in the arm chair he'd left him in, "are you alright?"
A laugh that sounds more like an alcohol induced coughing fit sounds from the couch. He looks over to find Remus lying on his back staring up at the ceiling tiles.
"Am I alright?" Remus sneers making Sirius's eye sting with unshed tears for his Remus. "Am I alright?" He chuckles darkly. "I'm fine for a monster who harms children."
"Remus," Sirius says moving towards the slight man to comfort him, "I don't believe those rumors that Snivellus started." He sighed raking a hand through his long black hair. "And you know that Dumbledore doesn't believe them either."
Remus rolls his eyes. "He'd have had to fire me either way," Remus states. "Is that what you're trying to imply, Sirius?"
Sirius shook his head. He hadn't been implying that at all. He'd only meant to say that Albus Dumbledore would have defended him against the allegations. Even though he also knew that people like his cousin-in-law Lucius Malfoy would have still called for Remus's firing.
"Then what are you implying, Sirius?" He doesn't mean yell at the love of his life. He shouldn't yell at him either. But he can't help it. Why can't Sirius see that he isn't able to provide the other man with what deserves.
"I'm not implying anything, my love." Sirius sits gently on the edge of the couch running a hand gently over Remus's hair. "What's brought this on?"
"I want more than what we've been given," Remus murmurs as the drink make him more and more sleepy. "I want to be able to provide you with the finer things in life. The things you deserve more than anything." He snuggles into Sirius's side eye growing more and more heavier by the minute.
"It's enough for me," Sirius tell him indicating everything about their life. "All of it. Why not for you?"
Remus hears the hurt in Sirius's voice on the last statement and it hurts him more than he's ever been hurt before. He wishes that he could tell Sirius that everything they have is enough but he wants more. He wants the life they'd had before he got fired and he tells Sirius as much.
"Then get it back," Sirius tells him.
If only it was that easy, Remus thinks as he watches Sirius clean up after him. Sirius deserves so much more than him and he knows this to be truth.
I hope you all enjoyed Sad Truths.
