Just my perception of B'Elanna's relationship (or lack of) with her father. It's written a little differently though, as if someone is speaking to him and explaining how his leaving affected his daughter.

*********************
The coldness from her mother
Never seemed as bad
When you held her and eased her tears
She knew you as simply Dad.

But you were so much more to her
Her teacher - her guide
You tried to explain what love meant
And how it changes us deep inside.

You told her about beauty
About peace and about war
You told her every morning
That you loved her even more.

In her grief she's still five years old
Trying to remember the last thing you said
Then it dawns on her and she mutters
"Go to sleep - stay in your bed."

Though so many things have changed
There's still a voice inside
Still a feeling of confusion
And a vault of tears never cried.

The one thing she never understood
The thing that still drives her mad
Why didn't you realise she needed you?
Just to be simply her Dad?
