Characters are borrowed, story is mine.
I didn't believe in "love at first sight." That was technically impossible, since I had been blind since I was nine years old. Before you start feeling sorry for me, please realize that I can take care of myself. As everyone well knows, when one loses a certain sense, all other senses are sharpened. I could hear things quicker than everyone else. I could smell even the most very subtle aromas (pleasant and, more often, unpleasant). And my sense of touch often told me most of what I needed to know about someone, or at least how they were feeling at a particular moment. Facial expressions are very powerful things. In addition, I grew up with a couple of very kick-ass German Shepherds watching my back.
I had given up on love at a very young age—sixteen to be exact. For some reason, people were either turned off or intimidated by a woman without sight. You'd think it would be just the opposite—that a man would be more willing to pursue a woman when he knew she couldn't see him. Knew that she couldn't see all his faults and imperfections. But alas, that was not the case. Also, men (or boys, I should say) can be very, very cruel. More about that later. So yeah, I had given up on love and everything glorious that goes along with it.
Until I met Edward.
