That One Night

The screams of my pain echoed throughout the night as I was taken away. Lost… my home, my family…my everything. Now, I had to restart my life whether I wanted to or not. Oh joy. I mean, I love change and all, but there's always a fine line between just enough change and too much variety. The change began yesterday morning and ended at night with sirens and mental houses. So where should I begin?

My Old Boring Life

"Ugghhhh" I said as I got up from bed. I. Hate. Mornings. When I got up from bed, I went to my closet, picked out a bohemian outfit, and went to wash up. In my bathroom I went through my boring routine of hair-straightening, teeth-brushing, and face-washing before I retreated back into my room to grab my accessories. First, I got my red and black bracelets that I always wear. Next was my gold bracelet with green beads that my best friend gave me for my birthday. Lastly, I looked under my pillow and took out my chain with a golden key around it. No, it was not my house key. Yes, it is made for opening locks. The lock it was designed for…well, I don't know what happened to it. But ever since I found the key, it made me feel lucky.

All of the accessories that I had, I had worn to bed. My lucky bracelet, four ponytail holders around my wrist, and my choker that I never take off. Downstairs, I found my kitchen empty and dark. I guess my parents weren't awake yet. Since I'm an only child, I'm used to silences like this. I take a bowl of cereal and an apple before getting my books and walking out the door to my bus.

That's when it happened.

I went to step outside my door but never landed. Instead, I found myself staring down at my foot while floating above my doorstep. That's also where the first scream of the day occurred. Now, I'm a theatre student (actor) so I know how to scream. But in all of my years; of playing girls with anger issues that get covered in jelly, evil incarnates that try to kill everyone, little boys (yes, I'm a girl), donkeys, beggars, and old ladies; not once have I screamed this loud. It was like some freaky scene out of The Exorcism of Emilie Rose or Nightmare on Elm Street. I was actually amazed that I almost hit a high E flat.

By the time that I finished screaming, I had fallen flat on my face. Luckily, I was on the grass but I felt something indescribable brush my bare shoulder. My back ached and it took a second for me to stand up. When I made my way up, I realized the truth. Oh. My. God.
