He didn't have much time to react as some pedestrian just pushed him aside and bless his bad luck he couldn't regain his balance in time, tried his best to keep on his feet but finally feel into the water. Today he was actually just supposed to go grocery shopping with Malik, nothing more. But once again he got himself into a trippy situation. Now he could only hope that Malik would notice his absence soon enough or he'd simply drown. And it wasn't a nice way for an Assassin to die like that. Infact, it would be a shame for him. Because then everybody would know that the great Altair couldn't swim. And that was an ability every Assassin should have.

The cold water quickly surrounded him and tucked at his clothes, pulled him deeper into the darkness. He couldn't breath nor could he see anything in this dim water and his fear wouldn't even let him move. Right now he wished badly for someone to find him or to actually just notice that he was drowning. By now his clothes were already soaked and his arms quickly got tired from trashing around so much. But he still did, after all his life depended on it.
Would he really die like that? If he had to answer this question in this very moment he could only agree. There was no sign that anybody actually saw him falling into the water and was now on their way to jump after him and help him. He felt lost and for the first time he felt fear. As long as he could remember water was his biggest weak point. And right now he was confronted with it.
The deeper he sunk the more he lost hope to ever see daylight again. It simply seemed impossible. He recalled some good memories and remembered the few happy times he had.
And just as his world started to go dark he felt an arm around his neck out of nothing. Before he could even react, trying to figure out who it was, there was already a warm and familiar pair of lips on his own, offering him air he badly needed. As the two pairs of lips parted again, the grip around his neck became rougher and pulled him upwards, most likely towards the surface.
He couldn't remember the rest of the way but as he finally felt the welcomed touch of air on his wet skin again, he cracked his eyes open to spot the Dai right next to him.
Malik himself heaved a loud sigh, wringing parts of his robes to get them dry again. Just like him he was soaked, water dripping down to the ground. "Stupid novice. You could at least watch your step. I'm not always there so save your sorry ass.", as usual he sounded very annoyed but if you listened a bit closer there was a slight hint of worry in his voice. No matter how much Malik tried, he could quite mask that he actually cared a bit.
