Taking a deep breath Cassidy inhaled a lung full of the fresh, crisp air as she stood on a cliff many meters above the dark, swirling abyss an ocean. She should actually be at home right now, in her bed fast asleep, but she could no longer resist the pull that she felt towards the ocean. She stretched her arms above her, gracefully like a ballerina might, and took a swift leap off of the cliff and plunged into the icy water below, into the one place that she felt weightless and truly free.

Cassidy awoke with a start to the sound of her alarm clock having a panic attack so she did what any normal teenager would do. She switched off her alarm, fell back onto her bed and buried her head into the cushion while pulling her fluffy white duvet up to cover her entire body. She knew that her mom would come in soon to force her to get out of bed and eat breakfast so that she wouldn't be late for school but she could allow herself at least five minutes to fully process that the December vacation was actually over. "Cassidy, honey, get up and come downstairs to eat or you're going to be late for school, I made your favourite, cherry pancakes!" Natalie, her mom, yelled from downstairs. With a groan Cassidy rolled out of bed and put on her slippers and favourite over-sized sweater over her tank top and walked slowly downstairs to give her eyes time to adjust to the bright light. As she got to the kitchen she sat down by her usual spot at the kitchen island where a plate of pancakes and a glass of water were set out for her. "Morning Mom" she said as her mom came and gave her a kiss on the cheek, "Morning sweetheart, are you nervous for your first day?" her mother asked her. "Extremely considering the last time I started ate a new school I was four years old, so this is definitely going to be a new experience for me." she answered. "Don't worry Cass everything's going to be fine, I'm sure you'll make new friends in no time"

"You're my mom you have to say that." Cassidy replied while rolling her eyes with an affectionate grin on her face. "Anyways I've got to go get changed or I'll never be ready in time." Cassidy said while putting her dish in the sink and rushing upstairs without waiting for her mom's reply since she only had twenty minutes to get ready if she wanted to be on time to get a lift to school with her sister.
