The fine line between cousin and friend
There's fine line, Rose Weasley has discovered, between being a cousin and being a friend. And she should know. She is, after all, the possessor of eleven cousins.
Well, strictly speaking, she is only the possessor of ten cousins. Lilly wasn't a cousin- she was a friend. She was the only one on that side of the fine line.
Rose could still remember the day when Lilly had crossed the line, when she was six and Lilly was five.
It was Grandma Weasley's birthday, one of the only times- besides Christmas, of course- when you could guarantee that all of Rose's many aunts, uncles and cousins would be together, and Rose had, completely by accident, broken a vase. Not just any vase either but Grandma's favourite vase.
Of course, no one suspected her. They suspected James or Albus or Hugo who, between them, seemed to break four or five things per day. And Rose wasn't going to admit it. Even though it had been an accident, she would still get into horrendous trouble.
Lilly had seen her do it, however, and Rose was terrified that she was going to tell on her but, amazingly, Lilly didn't. Any of her other cousins would have told on her but Lilly remained quiet as a mouse.
Something unspoken passed between them that day. They were no longer cousins- they were friends.
