One Shot. What happened after Castiel disappeared under the water. My plot bunnies are in a coma and I can't think of a thing to write except all this angsty stuff...so here's my take on what might have happened. Don't own, yada yada. R&R
For a second Castiel wasn't sure where he was. If he was human he would think he was dreaming, but he knew that was impossible. The ground beneath his feet shook and there was nothing but darkness. Just as he was about to decide that he was in Purgatory the darkness lifted slightly and he could see a figure approaching. His eyes grew wide as he saw who it was…and realized where he was. He looked down to find himself in his true from.
"So…Castiel. Getting a taste of your own medicine?"
"Yes…hello Jimmy."
"Welcome to my world. Nice to have some company for a change, but I never thought it would be you."
"Nor did I."
"Smooth move…getting yourself trapped in here."
"I did not realize the full consequences of my actions."
"Well I guess that makes us even then. You didn't actually give me a full disclosure now did you?"
"It was not my intention to deceive you. I was….unaware of the toll it would take on your family. The Winchesters taught me what family means…now I am regretful that I destroyed your life."
"Well thanks for admitting that. Doesn't seem like we have much time left. Things seem to be falling apart."
The ground shook again and Castiel saw water begin to seep down the walls in huge rivulets. He looked at Jimmy and felt regret.
"We don't. The Leviathans are disintegrating this body as we speak. I can't hold on much longer."
"What will happen to us?"
"You? I suppose you will go to Heaven…me I don't know. I suspect that Father will be rather annoyed at me if he still cares."
"You thought you were doing the right thing."
"I sincerely doubt he will see it that way considering the…epic fail that my actions became."
"I see the Winchesters rubbed off on you in more ways than one."
"Yes, they did. I will miss them."
"So…we die together."
"I suppose we do."
The ground shook violently and Jimmy fell forward. Castiel reached out on instinct and caught him, wrapping Jimmy in his wings to protect him from what was to come. From under the unearthly, iridescent feathers Castiel heard Jimmy speaking.
"Has anyone ever done this for you?"
"Done what?"
"Held you and protected you from harm."
A very human tug gripped Castiel's heart. "Not in many millennia."
Castiel felt Jimmy's human arms reach out and encircle his very inhuman form. It shouldn't have been possible, but somehow he felt it…and felt a little safer even though he knew that it was just an illusion. He just wished those arms were Dean's. As the tremors increased in intensity Castiel wrapped Jimmy tighter in his wings, protecting him as long as he could.
When he could hold on no longer, Castiel used the last of his strength to propel Jimmy's soul out of the body so he wouldn't have to feel the pain of death. Once that was done he wrapped his wings around the empty space in front of him...conjuring up an image of Dean, Sam, and Bobby within them...and offered up one last prayer to his Father as his essence was ripped apart and flung into a million pieces across the firmament.
"Keep the boys safe, Father."
