Empty Garden

AN: Hey. So this is a little something that I wrote based on Elton John's song Empty Garden. So here you go. I finished my paper before class and in class everyone worked on their paper so I figured I'd post this. Enjoy!

What happened here?

The moments after the battle were quiet. Suddenly, everything was still. Everyone looked around. The casualties were large but the victory was great.

The question running through everyone's mind was what exactly happened. All they know was they were fighting and then nothing. What happened?

And now it all looks grey...

Percy had a few moments alone. Well, not as much 'moments' but a 'short moment'. He looked out over the city. A few people had woken up, but not many. Most of the bodies of fallen demigods had already been taken back to camp. As Percy looked at the city, he noticed the grey haze finally lifted and the sun breaking through the clouds.

It's funny how an insect can damage so much grain…

Clarisse was sitting in front of Selena's body. It was wrapped in a funeral shroud. Chris came up behind her and put a hand on her shoulder.

"How could she do this?"

"I guess she thought she was doing the right thing." He told her. She looked up at him.

"How could she possible thing that was the right thing to do? She betrayed me." She whispered.

"I thing she wanted to help you. In the end." She looked away.

"How can I know?" She asked.

"You know her. You know how she thought."

"I thought I did." He smiled are wrapped his arms around her.

"You did know her and she was a good person. Despite one moment of weakness."

Clarisse wiped her eyes.

"You know I'm not crying, right?" Chris smiled

"I know."

As the New York sunset disappeared, I found an empty garden among the flag stones there…

Thalia had been 'rescued' from Hera – or at least the statue of Hera – and found Annabeth sitting near a window.

"It's really over, isn't it." Thalia asked. Annabeth didn't even look up. She nodded her head.

"And Percy is hero of Olympus now." Annabeth nodded again.

"Ya know," Thalia waked over to her. "The world didn't end." Anna'beth looked at her friend.

"So?" Thalia leaned against a wall.

"So." Annabeth glared at her.

"Where are you going with this?" Thalia grinned.

"I have no idea. You tell me."

And now we pray for rain...

The day after the battle the funeral pyres were lit. A few people were crying. Some were staring into the distance. Some where holding others; comforting the ones that were crying.

One by one the fires were lit. Friends were burned and friends watched.

There were clouds in the sky. It looked like rain but everyone knew it wouldn't.

Friends, family, brothers and sisters had been lost. But no where near as bad as it could have been.

The battle was over.

The war was over.

And I've been calling, 'Hey Hey, Johnny'. Won't you come out to play?
