"Out!" I said firmly to the tabby, who gave me several snubs as she was pushed across the threshold of our room. Refusing to be daunted, I nudged her along with my bare foot, and closed the door behind her, feeling more than a little triumphant. I heard James chuckle from the bed, propped up on his elbow and watching the amusing drama unfold before him.
I climbed in beside him, shivering a little as my thin nightgown rustled in the draft coming from the window left ajar. Lifting the covers, I slid in beside James, shifting to press against his body and entwine my legs with his. Sighing contentedly, I tucked my head under his chin, and relaxed as his arms wrapped around me.
"Why do you despise Hestia so?" I felt, more than heard, James ask, seeing as my face was buried in his chest.
I stifled a yawn as I leaned my head back to look him in the eye. The clear moonlight filtering through the window made slits of silver across our bedsheets, and pooled in the angles of James' face most beautifully. In the faint light, I could see the jest forming in his green eyes, and smiled a little saucily in return before burying my face in his chest again, relishing the feel of thin, coarse hair beneath my cheek. So he was going to take that cat's side, was he? I was sure I could make him quickly change his mind about whom to ally with.
I lazily tilted my head for better access, punctuating my answer with kisses along his jaw, enjoying the lingering scent of aftershave and salt. "She" kiss "used to be" kiss "owned by a rather lonely" kiss "bachelor who" kiss "positively doted on her." Here, I switched to the other side, and slowly made my way to his ear. "He" kiss "lavished attention" kiss "on Hestia, who" kiss "quickly came to the conclusion that" kiss "she was the Lady of the House!" I rubbed my nose against that soft spot behind James' ear before lightly tugging on his lobe with my teeth. "I'm just setting things to rights."
Squirming a little, he managed to reply "And what of the gentleman?"
"Oh," I smiled, sliding my hands into his hair and drawing his face closer, "he found someone else to lavish attention on."
