Please forgive me if this isn't too great. It was sort of a drabble I had itching in my mind.
It had been a frightening experience. Terrifying actually. Only something as awful as rabies could turn him, a once loving dog, into a growling, blood-streaked beast. In the end, it had seemed like him against the world. The air, the water, the noises… They were so terrifying. There was pain, so much pain in his head. Throbbing awful pain… Then there was water. The horrible, cruel water that bit at his teeth and aggravated him. No matter how much he roared and barked and growled, he couldn't make the water go away. It wasn't like the strange people who spoke loud. They could be hushed. Oh, how he had hated those people.
Like that lady in the car. The lady and her kid. Why couldn't they leave him be? That lady had taunted him… mocked him… toyed with his head… She would get out of her car, and he could get her, but then she'd go back in before he could strike. How she had aggravated him. And he had finally gotten her. He had finally gotten to rip into her flesh, relishing the warm blood that gushed out. It did not hurt his teeth like that horrible water. He had almost won against the lady. But that strange man had came, and he had been urged to kill. Then the lady got loose.
She had run from him and he had chased her. He needed to kill. His mind was screaming at him to kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. It was a compulsion. He needed to kill. But the lady had grabbed a bat and hit him. How it had hurt. It had hurt so bad. Hurt. Hurt. Hurt. He fought her back. And she hit him harder. And harder. He had started getting numb. The pain is his head dulled. Things started going black. And the madness began to cease. No more rage. No more cruel water. No more lady. No more pain. Finally. No more. He found relief from himself in death.
It wasn't the greatest drabble, but Cujo was the monster and Donna was his victim. But if you look at it differently, Cujo was, in his own way, a victim of his disease, and I thought it would be a change to portray him that way.
